A Sanctuary from the Statistics

Fertility journeys are rarely linear. For many of my patients, the process can feel physically demanding, emotionally overwhelming, and deeply personal.

At my practice, care supports both the reproductive system and the nervous system throughout this process. Patients are met in a calm, intentional space where concerns are heard and treatment is adjusted based on how the body responds at each stage. This continuity allows care to evolve with you rather than follow a fixed protocol.

Poonam G, Fertility Coach

Fertility Acupuncture for Patients in Williamsburg & Greenpoint

I provide fertility acupuncture for patients in Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and greater Brooklyn seeking support with natural conception, IVF, IUI, and egg freezing. Care is designed to support both reproductive function and nervous system regulation, with treatment tailored to each stage of your fertility journey.

Rather than applying a fixed protocol, I look at the complete picture of your health to create an optimal environment for conception and hormonal balance.

How I Support Your Journey

Acupuncture is a minimally invasive, whole-body treatment that supports reproductive health by regulating stress physiology, improving circulation, and promoting hormonal balance. The goal is to provide a nurturing clinical partnership to support your unique body through natural conception, IVF and egg freezing.

Restore Nervous System Equilibrium

The psychological and physical toll of trying to conceive, and/ or navigating medicated cycles can keep the body in a constant state of high alert. Stress can have a significantly negative impact on fertility by disrupting hormone levels and suppressing ovulation. Acupuncture can help regulate the body's stress response by activating the parasympathetic nervous system. Studies show that women who received acupuncture during IVF had significantly lower levels of anxiety and stress than those who did not.

Improve Reproductive Organs Blood Flow

Robust circulation is key to reproductive health. Acupuncture works to optimize microcirculation directly to the ovaries and uterus. This consistent flow of oxygen and nutrients nourishes developing follicles and supports thickening of the endometrial lining, cultivating a plush, welcoming environment for an embryo to implant. A detailed study tracking over 1,000 IVF cycles found that patients who integrated a full course of acupuncture (13-15 sessions) in conjunction with their IVF were twice as likely to have a live birth.

Restore Cycle Rhythm

Irregular menstrual cycles can make it difficult to conceive. Acupuncture can treat underlying gynecological conditions, help regulate cycles, and improve the regularity of ovulation. Acupuncture influences the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovary (HPO) axis to regulate the communication loop between your brain and reproductive organs. This encourages predictable ovulation, restores balance in the endocrine system, and improves thyroid function. Acupuncture can also improve the quality of cervical mucus, which plays an important role in fertility by helping sperm reach and fertilize the egg.

Optimize Egg and Sperm Quality

Healthy fertility is a natural byproduct of systemic abundance. Many patients feel overwhelmed by fertility age statistics, but chronological time is only one piece of the puzzle. Chinese Medicine focuses on the cellular environment where eggs and sperm develop. Because gametes mature over a multi-month cycle, we have a valuable window to reduce systemic inflammation and maximize cellular vitality. Clinical studies have shown that women who received acupuncture with IVF had a higher rate of mature follicles and higher-quality eggs. Studies have also found that men who received acupuncture had significantly higher sperm motility and a higher percentage of healthy sperm.

Cultivate Systemic Vitality & Resilience

Reproductive health is a direct extension of your body’s overall vitality. While conventional protocols often focus exclusively on the reproductive organs, acupuncture treats your body as an interconnected ecosystem. By lowering systemic inflammation, stabilizing immune function, and optimizing digestive functions, we help clear the hidden stressors that can drain your cellular energy. This allows your system to freely allocate resources towards reproduction.

Fertility Acupuncture FAQs

When is the best time to start acupuncture for fertility? And how often?

In my practice, acupuncture for fertility is most effective when performed weekly at least three months leading up to IVF/ IUI,  egg freezing, or trying to conceive naturally.

While it takes about a year for primordial follicles to develop and mature, the three months leading up to ovulation are a crucial window. This is the time when the growing follicles develop and express the majority of their receptor sites, responsive to the body's hormone stimulation. Weekly sessions three months before conceiving or IVF allow time for the body to regulate hormones that affect the growing follicles, directly optimizing egg quality.

Can I continue trying to conceive naturally while receiving acupuncture?

If you are trying to conceive naturally, you can absolutely continue trying while receiving care. If there is a complex pre-existing condition, we will collaborate on a customized timeline that may include a waiting period to focus entirely on restoring your systemic foundation first.

Will I see the same practitioner each time?

Yes. Continuity of care is a core part of my practice. Your treatment is guided directly by me, and your plan evolves over time based on how your body responds.

What is the recommended acupuncture protocol during IVF?

I align treatment with the different phases of your IVF cycle to support both physiological response and nervous system balance:

Priming Phase: Weekly sessions for three months leading up to IVF/IUI/ egg freezing cycle

Stimulation Phase: Twice a week to improve pelvic microcirculation and reduce side effects.

Embryo Transfer: One session before and one session post-transfer. This specific protocol has been clinically shown to be the most effective strategy for calming uterine contractions and supporting implantation.

Post-transfer Window: Additional session 3-5 days post-transfer is appropriate for certain patients. Weekly acupuncture can also be considered during the waiting period to decrease stress and anxiety.

Pregnancy & Beyond: Acupuncture remains entirely safe and highly supportive throughout pregnancy to address nausea, physical discomfort, labor preparation, and postpartum recovery.

I have a low egg reserve. Will I benefit from acupuncture?

Acupuncture in this context focuses on improving the quality of the oocytes. A low anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) level or a low antral follicle count is a statistical metric used by fertility clinics to predict how your body might respond to stimulation. It is not a definitive verdict on your overall fertility or your ability to conceive and sustain a healthy pregnancy. In my practice, I regularly work with patients navigating low AMH, diminished ovarian reserve, or age-related fertility concerns. Many of these patients go on to conceive naturally or alongside IVF/ IUI.

Can Acupuncture Improve Egg Freezing Results?

Yes, egg freezing is the first half of the IVF process involving hormone stimulation and egg retrieval. The same advice stands to utilize weekly acupuncture to regulate your endocrine response, lower systemic stress, and maximize nutrient-dense blood flow directly to the ovaries to support optimal oocyte quality.

Following the retrieval, your body undergoes a rapid hormonal drop-off. Post-retrieval sessions can help clear the side effects of stimulation medications, reduce pelvic inflammation, fluid retention, bloating, and emotional vulnerability so your body can transition smoothly back to its natural rhythm.

Can acupuncture help during IVF cycles?

prominent retrospective cohort study evaluated the outcomes of over 1,000 IVF cycles by comparing three groups:

1) IVF treatment alone

2) IVF with acupuncture on the day of embryo transfer

3) IVF with a full course of acupuncture throughout the cycle (approximately 13–15 sessions)

The study found the group who added a full course of acupuncture sessions were twice as likely to achieve a live birth compared to women who did IVF alone. This group also showed a 60% higher success rate than those who only received acupuncture on the day of transfer.

What else can I do to increase my chances of getting pregnant naturally?

Healthy fertility is a reflection of overall systemic abundance. Alongside a consistent acupuncture routine, I often recommend simple lifestyle adjustments that support reproductive health:

Nourish with Whole Foods: Prioritize a nutrient-dense diet rich in high-quality proteins, healthy fats, and antioxidant-rich vegetables and fruits.

Prioritize Clean Supplementation: Invest in high-quality prenatal vitamins that are 3rd-party-tested for contaminants and heavy metals. Other supplements such as Co-Q10 and NAD+ can offer targeted support for oocyte quality.

Balance Your Movement & Metabolism: Both sedentary habits and extreme workouts can disrupt hormone production. Engage in regular, moderate exercise to support your body's natural rhythms. Maintain a healthy weight to provide a stable baseline for your endocrine system, making it easier for your body to regulate ovulation.

Optimize Cellular Recovery: Aim for early, consistent, high-quality sleep, and minimize cellular stressors by limiting alcohol consumption and eliminating smoking.

Track Mindfully: Utilize ovulation strips and/ or track your basal body temperature (BBT) to gain insight into your true fertile window, rather than relying solely on automated calendar apps.
